The debut of hip-hop artist Kova appears on the renowned independent music label Vinyl Digital. The red colored record is a hip hop instrumental album that feels like a zapped through TV evening, like a ride through the television cosmos. The warm organic jazzy sound is sonically rooted between the 1960s and the 1990s, but sounds surprisingly modern. The design challenge was to convey the retro feeling of the music without appearing old fashioned. In Collaboration with the photographers and set designers from Studio Tusch, we staged a remote control into an iconic object. The viusal aesthetic is based on sneaker commercials from the 90s. A second motif (on the flip side) spans the visual frame back to the 1970s. In order to bring the visual aesthetics into the present time, we have selected the font Titling Gothic Extended. The use of extended typography experienced a boom at the late 80s and early 90s and has made a comeback in recent years. The font therefore looks retrospective and contemporary at the same time.
